Muncy Locals Mar. 1, 2017

By Staff | Mar 1, 2017

Welcome everyone to Women’s History Month. The first tribute will be to Ellen Sprout and Maggie Waldron. The research was done by Mary Sieminski who writes a monthly column for the Sun-Gazette on Lycoming County women in history. At one time, late 1800s, these two women were the leading ladies of Muncy. Their lives are revealed through Mary’s research and I wanted to share their history with Luminary readers.

Volunteers are needed for the Son-Light House. Their recent newsletter said household recipients increased for 2016, a slight increase from the previous year. There were 121 new households added that needed assistance. Raise the Region is soon approaching, Weds. Mar. 8, so keep the Son-Light House in mind as one of the local non-profits to support for this First Community Foundation initiative.

This past week was very productive and somewhat relaxing. I stopped into the Centered Earth Clay Arts Studio in Pennsdale and signed up to make a berry bowl on April 1st. Kathy Gorg is offering special two hour class projects to make every weekend. This weekend she will be offering St. Patrick’s Day Steins and also this month you can make bird houses, garden stakes and Easter ornaments. Stop in the studio to pick up the full schedule.

On Thursday, I visited Stacie’s Shear Sensations in Mill Creek Township and enjoyed a facial, my first professional one, and the infrared suana, a method used to detoxify the body and release stored toxins. I really think it helped me from getting a bad cold I felt coming on as the radiant heat was absorbed by my skin and I sweated everything out from my body at a temperature close to 140 degrees.

If you are interested in saving some money on your groceries, the Muncy Public Library is hosting a monthly coupon exchange. If you have any extra coupons that you don’t need, they would like you to drop them off at the front desk. In exchange you can select from the box those you do use.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: According to a study from George Washington University, men interrupt 33% more often when speaking with a woman than when they’re talking to another man.
