By Staff | Mar 15, 2017

Cindy Campbell, president of the Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild reports that several charity quilts have been made and donated and plans are in the works for next year’s quilt show that will open the first weekend in March.

A grand opening celebration took place on March 2 for a new small gift shop in the center lobby of the Muncy Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. If you are going to visit someone there, you can always stop by and pick up a fresh floral arrangement, a stuffed animal, a coffee mug and other cherished gift items. They also offer snacks, freshly-made sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and beverages. The Gift Box is still available in the main lobby of the hospital and has new merchandise arriving every week including puzzle books, watches and tee-shirts.

Ruth Reigle has donated some handmade walker and catheter bags for the residents and the volunteer Teady Bear sewing group still meets regularly. Along with Ruth, they are Diane Emery, Doris Hess, Jeannie Sinsabaugh, Bev Hall and Rosario Bell. They get together and make teddy bears for new long term residents.

Meagan Murray of Meagan’s Box Foundation is asking us to have lunch or dinner at Hoss’s Restaurant on Thursday, March 23 and 25 percent of your bill will be donated to buy toys and clothing for our local children this Christmas. Last year Meagan and her crew delivered 1,950 gifts to local shelters and charities.

The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP) in collaboration with Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships, hosted Raise the Region 2017 last week with a kickoff at the dealership in Muncy. They beat the record from last year in fundraising efforts. $1,451,907 was dontated to 327 nonprofit organizations which totaled to 8,190 gifts. Congratulations to Muncy Little League for winning Subaru’s County Prize award of $1,000.

Also congratulations to Joe Larose from Muncy who competed in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational Finals in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida last weekend. Joe qualified for this national event after he won the regional at White Deer last June. The tournament was a fundraiser for Hope Enterprises.

On the healthy side, as part of an effort to talk openly about colon cancer, UPMC Susquehanna offers a giant inflatable colon for us to walk through. Digestive Disease Center and Endoscopy representatives will offer educational tours of a giant inflatable colon on Wednesdays, March 15 and 22, and Tuesday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main entrance lobby in the Williamsport Center. This is a good opportunity to learn about colon health and the inside tract of our digestive system.
