Muncy locals May 3

By Staff | May 10, 2017

This is National Pet Month and our favorite Weis Markets is announcing a Paws for Pets program. They are collecting monetary donations, pet food and supplies during May to celebrate. While you are shopping for your groceries, you can pick up some supplies for their pet drive and place them in their special collection bin. You can also give $1, $3 or $5 donations at the register. All contributions will go to our SPCA and other shelters in the area. Some of the items they need are pet foods, water bowls, kitty litter, collars, harnesses and leashes, toys and treats, pet shampoos, nail clipprs, pet brushes, combs, dishwashing liquid, bleach, mops and brooms, towels, washcloths and powder-free latex gloves.

This week is designated Small Business Week for Pennsylvania businesses. Small businesses are an important part of our economy. Personally, I will only eat at restaurants owned by a private business owner, not any of the food chains. More than 99 percent of the businesses in Pennsylvania are small start-ups, so let’s celebrate these entrepreneurs and their impact on our economy.

A sweet little boy named Dakota Rumney needs our help. His grandmother Bertha Fry says he is a fighter, and that is what is keeping him alive. He has a form of cerebral palsy which prevents him from walking independently. He struggles with balance and he would like to be free from a wheelchair and a walker. Some fundraising is needed so that he can get special treatments to help him walk, and each of these sessions cost $7,000. The family needs to travel to Denver and stay with him per 5 day session and they said it has been an incredibly difficult uphill climb. His mom is the former Jen Avery of Muncy and an account has been set up for him for the donations at Muncy Bank & Trust under the name “Dakota Rumney Fundraising Account.” For further information, you can call his grandparents Harley and Bertha Fry at 570-546-6885.
