Muncy Locals May 10, 2017
Kathy Gorg from Centered Earth Clay Arts Studio & Gallery in Pennsdale is hosting summer camps for kids. There are some very talented and underprivileged children in our area who can’t afford the cost, but would love to enroll. So Kathy is looking for local businesses or patrons to help sponsor a child for a week of camp. Local art teachers will choose the students who will gain the most benefit from one week of summer camp and those who need the financial assistance. For each sponsor she gets, Kathy said Centered Earth studio will give back 20 percent of the camp tuition fees to the art department chosen by the sponsor. To top it off, Gorg and her team will host the sponsor and a guest at a summer’s end Wheel Throwing Party. To help provide a fun and educational time for kids, give Kathy a call at 570-666-3159.
Congratulations goes to Tyler Girven, a sophomore at Muncy High School who was recognized by the Penn State Cooperative Extension for his woodworking and dairy projects in the Pioneer Valley 4-H Club. Tyler is also a junior member of the Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Co. Station 39 and a youth assistant and referee for Muncy AYSO program. In addition to this, he is a member of the varsity men’s soccer team and the marching concert and jazz bands.
Mary Buddendorf and her son, Jim McCoy were awarded the Cooperator of the Year Award for their best farming practices such as no-till planting and rotating crops at McCoy Farms in Clarkstown. This is another project through the Penn State Extension and county conservation offices. The award was presented to them by the PA Secretary of Agriculture.
It’s time to get the humminbird feeders out. The Audubon Society said this is the best time of year to see some rare sightings with migrations from South America. Some of the best birding sights according to the experts are along the Susquehanna River, including the one here at Muncy Heritage Park and the Susquehanna River Walk.
