Muncy Locals May 17, 2017
Several Muncy students are getting recognized this week for the annual Little League Baseball Scholarships awards at a special luncheon held on the Little League campus. Every year five male and five female students from surrounding high schools are given the awards of merit in the namesake of Little League founder, Carl E. Stotz. Congratulations Sarah Freezer, Caleb Smith and Justin Kramer. Each of them along with Courtney Scott from Hughesville will be receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
A Muncy High School graduate (1997), Stephen Daily, recently received a National Emmy for “Outstanding Studio Design and Art Direction” for the studio set design for the post-game sport show on TNT “Inside the NBA.” He said his next goal is to be a director.
Now that the weather has turned in our favor, I highly recommend going to the Relay for Life this weekend at Hughesville High School. There is still time to get the glow sticks for the luminaries as a tribute to a loved one who has or has had cancer. The glow sticks will be nestled in bags and on Friday night at 9 p.m. they will be glowing. There will be a special ceremony to lead the 21 hour team event that wil end Saturday night in the stadium. You can call the ACS office to reserve your special luminary at 1-888-227-5445 to “help light the way to a cure.” Reuben’s Rubies, and the Stugart family led by Joyce and Reuben Stugart, will continue with their dedicated spirit and hold another butterfly release to honor their late brother-in-law. They have been involved with Relay for Life since 2005. This year, to go along with the theme, they will decorate their tent site as Holland, because each team is to choose a different country to represent. While at the event, grab one of Hughesville Rotary’s tasty pulled pork sandwiches.
Starting at 9 a.m., this Saturday is the start date for the program “Bold Not Old” at the East Lycoming YMCA. Medals are going to be given away to the male and female older adult who can walk the most laps. And for each lap completed, your name will be entered into a drawing box for a big Y prize pack.
