Muncy Locals June 1, 2017

By Staff | Jun 1, 2017

Memorial weekend has come and gone so quickly, with many of the Memorial services held indoors. This is the first time I can remember in the past ten years that we had rain on Memorial Day Monday morning. However, Muncy was lucky, because by the time 11 a.m. came, most of the rain had stopped. So Muncy borough was the only one in the tri-county area that had the parade. Hughesville’s and Montgomery’s parades were cancelled as they were scheduled for 9 a.m. I was pleased to see so many spectators lining the streets of Muncy. And Hughesville’s fire trucks joined those of Muncy and Pennsdale.

The Tivoli Christian Women’s Group is collecting toiletry and personal hygiene items for Shepherd of the Streets. They need shampoos, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and even disposable diapers. These items can be dropped off at the Tivoli United Methodist Church on Weds. from 1-3 June 7 and June 21.

The Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at UPMC Muncy Valley Hospital is searching for students between the ages of 14-18 to help them transport residents to and from their social activities. They also need assistance for visitations, playing games or taking residents outside for fresh air. These are volunteer positions and average time committed is only 2 to 3 hours a week. Adult volunteers are needed as well. If you are interested, call the Volunteer Office at 570-546-4128 or 570-321-2433.

Robyn Schreiber at Green Barn Berry Farm said the first crop of strawberries are ready for picking. She said these early growers are super sweet, and it won’t take long to pick several quarts.

Be sure to check out the Muncy Public Library soon as a lot of things are happening there this summer. There is an acivity for you or a child just about everyday, not to mention the new reading materials for this year’s theme “Build a Better World.” ZooAmerica will be coming July 6th with live animals!
