Hughesville Locals

By Staff | Jun 9, 2017

We have had plenty of rain lately, and sometimes it has seemed as though it has rained every day. Fortunately, the last two Saturdays have been wonderful late spring days, and I have tried to get as many outdoor chores and fun events squeezed into each one as was possible.

We are well into HVFD carnival week and I hope everyone is enjoying the food, rides, and entertainment. I will see you there I will probably be sampling some of the great pies, or trying my luck at the Cake Wheel.

While we all hope that we will not need the expertise of the fire department at our homes, our firefighters provide a crucial service. We all need to support those who give so much of their time to serve the entire community.

Have your children registered for Summer Reading at the Hughesville Area Public Library? Reading logs are available and the prize basket has some great, fun items. Children only need to read for 15 minutes, at least 4 times each week, to qualify for that week’s prize. Reading skill is so crucial to every child’s educational success. Having children read for fun helps them develop all their learning skills and pays huge dividends in their schoolwork. Visit the library soon with your child and become acquainted with the variety of material and services there. HAPL is located at 146 South Fifth Street, and is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:45 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Wednesday and Sunday, except for special events.

Containers for planting, soil, oregano, basil, and cherry tomato seeds, along with a pamphlet of instructions, are all included. Also in the pamphlet are a few recipes for making your pizza, including an easy pizza sauce and a cauliflower crust. Master Gardener Helen Grosso will be giving a short presentation on getting started and will be available for questions. Come to the library for this free, fun, educational event.
