Muncy Locals June 14, 2017
Today is Flag Day, and it was 240 years ago on this day, June 14 in 1777 when the United States adopted our American flag, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Pennsylvania Flag was authorized on June 13, 1907 and features the same blue color as that of the United States. Its coat of arms is thought to have come from a design of Benjamin Franklin who made a series of emblems for military flage in 1747.
This month the Church of Resurrection in Muncy will be hosting their annual summer festival with exceptional live music, great food and lots of baskets on raffle. Carla Autin has donated over 30 and Joanne Ort with other parishioners quilted a beautiful quilt that will be on raffle. The wine and cake wheel is very popular. Last year I won two bottles of wine and a cake. Church volunteers really donate a lot and work on this fundraiser all year long. Come to both the festival and Muncy’s 4th Friday on June 23.
This Saturday is the opening for bass season in Pennsylvania. State parks are a great place to go for bass fishing and there are more than 4,000 lakes and resevoirs which contain bass according to the Fish and Boat Commission.
Forksville will have its annual Mud Day on Saturday from 1-3 which promotes children’s connetions with the natural world. Kids from all over get to roll, squish and slosh in the mud. Studies declare that bonding with soil helps boost a healthy immunity system. Mud bathing is an ancient relief from skin ailments and the relief of arthritis. Kids will enjoy cooking up some mud pies at World’s End State Park, and they can wash themselves off in the creek afterwards.
Congratulations goes to Rupa Porob who won the 2017 Long-Term Care nursing award last month. Rupa is a registered nurse in Muncy’s Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
