Hughesville locals July 12, 2017
It is time for the Lycoming County Fair! There will be many opportunities for fun and food, so I hope everyone will get the chance to visit once or more. I always like to begin at one gate or another and work my way around the midway and track, enjoying several of my favorite food items as I stroll. It is also fun to check out the many animals that are being shown for ribbons and for the stock sales. Many local students belong to 4-H and bring their lambs, goats, cows, horses, rabbits, or fowl to show and compete. There is so much to see and admire, also, in the flower and hobbies buildings. Despite the usual heat and humidity, the attendants do a great job of keeping everything looking good and keeping a nice breeze going through the displays.
The Water Street construction project is progressing well, and I understand that no further work will be started until after the Fair, so traffic should flow smoothly, at least until after the 22nd. Then the section of Water Street from Third Street to Main (or at least to the alley between Main and Second) will be rebuilt, so there will be a detour once again. Please watch for these changes and be alert for any drivers who are not aware of the situation.
The Hughesville Area Public Library is continuing with Summer Reading programs and special activities, as well as the usual sessions for pre-school and elementary children. Of course, there are always many opportunities for teens and adults to participate as well.
The weather has certainly been summery, but it seems that on the hottest, stickiest days, I am too tied up with work or other commitments to spend any real time in our pool. I have hopes that I will be able to arrange things better over the next few weeks so that I can really enjoy having it. There have been several days when I would have liked to swim, but the temperatures dropped or the thunderstorms rolled in, so cross your fingers that I can be ready when the conditions are good!
See you at the Lycoming County Fair!
