Hughesville Locals Aug. 23, 2017

By Staff | Aug 25, 2017

Greetings from Colorado, the heart of the west! We have enjoyed a nice visit with extended family members, including two wonderful, rambunctious grandsons. When you read this, the solar eclipse will have occurred. We are hoping to see it from somewhere in the path of totality, either in eastern Wyoming, or western Nebraska. I will let you know about that next week!

Little League World Series is such a busy time in the area, although Hughesville doesn’t experience too much of the associated traffic. The sky can get busy, however, and I always enjoy a glimpse of one or more of the blimps that visit and provide sky-high camera angles. The Major League baseball game that took place at Bowman Field was a truly special addition to the Series calendar of events. For at least a short while, Lycoming County will have been “on the map” for folks all across the country, but we can hope that we will soon return to being a part of the rural landscape of the Pennsylvania Wilds!

It’s Back to School time and I am sure that, while there may be some butterflies and apprehensions, students and teachers will all be happy to be together. The hallways of all the schools will be humming with the sounds of learning and growing. It’s also time for the fall sports teams to begin their competitive seasons, and the HHS Spartan Band has already performed for the Firemen’s Convention parade and the Little League World Series Grand-Slam Parade. I saw some photos and video of both and want to congratulate Mr. Harman and all of the band members for representing our community in such a wonderful way! I’m anxious to see the band show at the football games this fall.

Although school is beginning, there are still many days of summer remaining, so don’t forget to get out and enjoy our local parks, biking trails, and hiking paths.
