I am thrilled that fall is here the older I get, the more it becomes my favorite season. I love wearing thick sweaters, drinking hot cocoa, and watching the leaves change color.

I also love all of our old town traditions, like football games (which wouldn’t be complete without the Red Raider Marching Band and the Halloween parade. I am also looking forward to observing some of our new traditions like the Pumpkin Roll.

The wonderful thing about old traditions is that they link us to our past, and the beauty of new traditions is that they are a bridge to the future. It reminds us that no matter how unpredictable life can be at times, we do have some control over our circumstances and who we choose to be. Every day we can choose to continue to grow, learn, and improve, or every day we can decline. In the age of constant distraction and perpetual digital entertainment, the choice to do the latter is easily made without our realizing it. But that’s why we each one of us needs to live with intention.

With cold weather fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to be inside and get things done. Make a list of all the things you’ve been wanting to do and set aside time to do it. You don’t have to do it all at once, but decide on a project or two that you want to achieve this winter. Maybe that means labeling the backs of all of your photos with the names of the people in them and the places they were taken. Future generations will be glad you did! Or it might mean dusting off the sewing machine or registering for a class of some sort.

Whatever you choose to do, do it well. And enjoy this beautiful season!

Wed. Oct. 4th The Montgomery Area Public Library will hold Toddler Tales at 11 am. Children ages 1-5 are welcome. Please pre-register by calling 547-6212. The hour long event includes a story and a craft.

Mon. Oct. 9th The Clinton Township Supervisors will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

Tue. Oct. 10th The Montgomery Borough Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Borough Building.

Thur. Oct. 12th The Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company will have an open house from 5 9 p.m. The event includes fire extinguisher training, station tours, and information about how the equipment works and how you can help the community. Refreshments will be served.

Sat. Oct. 14th The second annual Fall Festival and Pumpkin Roll will be held by the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company. The Festival will be at the carnival grounds from 9 a.m. 11 p.m., the Pumpkin Roll will be at 2 p.m. on West Houston Avenue.

Sat. Oct. 14th The Montgomery Area Historical Society will have an open house in the Adam Room from 10 am 1 pm.

Tue. Oct. 17th The Montgomery Area Alumni Association will have a fundraiser at Muncy Wendy’s from 5 8 pm. Ten percent of sales during that time will go to the Alumni Association.
