Hughesville Locals Oct. 11, 2017

By Staff | Oct 11, 2017

What a summer-y beginning of October we have had! At the time I write this we are awaiting the remnants of Hurricane Nate, which was in the Gulf coast states over the weekend. It will be a long time before the areas affected by this year’s hurricanes are able to be back to normal. It is awful to see the photos of the devastation the residents of southeastern Texas, Puerto Rico, and most of the Gulf Coast states have had to deal with. Also, of course, there are the people in so many of the island territories and nations in the Caribbean who have also felt the wrath of hurricanes this year. I hope everyone in our area has stayed high and dry.

It’s time for Major League Baseball playoff games and the World Series, but somehow this year I don’t seem to be able to have much enthusiasm. I seem to have paid far less attention to MLB than I have done in the past. It’s hard when we have to travel 3 or 4 hours to watch games in a stadium, and sitting indoors to watch games during nice weather doesn’t have a lot of appeal. I will probably turn on the games once the Series starts.

One of the things that have taken up my leisure time recently is our latest home renovation project. We moved into a hundred-year-old house 25 years ago and have been gradually updating most of the rooms in the house. Because of many factors, the master bedroom has been the room to which the least attention has been paid. We have stripped out the old lath and plaster and are now at the stage of rewiring and installing drywall, so you know this will be a lengthy process. I hope we are able to be back in there before Christmas.

Before I think about Christmas, however, I need to complete some Halloween costumes and decorations for the rest of the house. The warm weather has made it easy to procrastinate about fall stuff, and my patio furniture is still in place, so if anyone can add a couple of days in the each of the next few weeks, I should be able to get it all done! Have a great week!
