Muncy Locals Oct. 18, 2017

By Staff | Oct 17, 2017

A parade took place Friday night at 5:30 to welcome Muncy’s homecoming. Lots of cameras were going off as the court paraded through the streets, and onto the football field.

Janessa Mitterling of State Farm Insurance is partnering with Muncy High School FBLA to create two community service days. They will be raking leaves, pulling weeds, picking up trash, and beautifying things around town! They are looking for some places to go that can use some of the extra help. They are calling the project “Doing Good In The Neighborhood”. Members of the FBLA will be meeting at the State Farm Office in Muncy on Water Street and then going out in teams to complete the projects. Upcoming dates are Sat. Oct. 28 and Sat. Nov. 11 from 11:30 to 1:30. If interested in having them come to your place of business, call Janessa at 546-5000.

The Muncy Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is planning a Halloween parade for the residents on Weds. Oct. 25 at 6:30. If you have little ones in costume and know someone at the center, they would enjoy a visit and possibly hand out a treat in return. Cassie Neidig is the contact person in the Activities department for more information.

I attended a great program last Monday night at the Muncy Public Library as part of the Full Circle Future Harvest Group, a learning support of likeminded individuals who want to maintain optimum health by consuming high quality sustainable foods, preferably organic and grown in our gardens. The program focused on growing garlic which now is the time to plant them for harvest in July. Last month Master Gardeners discussed “Putting Your Garden to Bed” and next month the topic will be whole health and wellness presented by Moses Alvarez, a licensed acupuncturist and RN who is “well versed in keeping the whole body healthy and happy.” I have attended two of the group’s programs so far and was amazed at the amount of information I learned. I discovered the numerous varieties of garlic, fertilizers to use, cover crops, keeping soil nutritious and so much more. I want to share some of the informaiton in the Luminary from these topics hoping you can add to the information presented, as the library is cataloging everything. I was able to come home with some garlic to plant and in November there will be a discussion about the various types of seasonal squash with a recipe exchange. The library also is acquiring resource books about organic gardening that can be rented out with preservation tips on fall and winter harvest.
