Hughesville Locals Nov. 1, 2017

By Staff | Nov 1, 2017

It’s always a nice thing to pull out the sweaters and sweatshirts that you packed away last spring and discover a long-lost item in the pocket. For the past several months, I have been complaining about losing my favorite earbuds for listening to books and music on my phone or Kindle. Lo and behold, they have been in the drawer all this time, safe and secure in my hoodie pocket. I am so glad to have found them!

It’s too early for snow for most of us, but the crisp mornings are a nice transition. Sunset will be a bit later starting Sunday when we turn back our clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Don’t forget to change all of yours that are not automatic!

And don’t forget the annual St. Nick’s craft show this Saturday at the Hughesville High School. It is always so much fun to do some holiday shopping with some well known crafters from the area.

Hughesville Events:

Fri. Nov. 3, Pre-school Story Time for children 3 to 6 years and their caregivers, at Hughesville Area Public Library (HAPL), 146 S. Fifth Street, 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.

Sat. Nov. 4 East Lycoming Soccer Association (ELSA) presents “St. Nick’s Novelties” annual craft fair at Hughesville High School. Many crafters, artists, and artisans will have a wonderful selection of gifts and decorative items, plus there are food items for lunch or a snack, and many chances to win door prizes. This is a much anticipated, not-to-be-missed fun Saturday.

Sat. Nov. 4, Lycoming Valley Baptist Church on Lycoming Mall Drive will host the 4th Annual Silent Auction Gala to benefit “2 Seconds Or Less,” at 6 p.m. It is a nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood malnutrition. Christie Heimbach, a 2010 HHS graduate and one of the founders of “2 Seconds or Less” will be among those describing how they have made an impact in 2017, and how you can partner with them to continue being a source for change in the world! This group, begun in 2012, has served over ten schools in Africa, feeding thousands of vulnerable children and orphans, and recently even started a student vision trip program that takes local students on excursions to learn about cross cultural communication and empathetic leadership.

Mon. Nov. 6, “Wee Tales” for children ages 12 months to 3 years and their caregivers at HAPL, 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.

Tues. Nov. 7 Election Day. Even though it is an “off year,” it is still important for all citizens to cast a vote at every election.

Tues. Nov. 7, “Wee Play” for children ages 2 – 6 years and their caregivers at HAPL, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Tues. Nov. 7 Ashkar PTA and Fairfield Auto Group are excited to host The Harlem Wizards at Hughesville High School starting at 6:30 p.m. The Harlem Wizards promise an evening filled with fun and laughter for our students and community. The Wizards will be taking on a team of teachers, staff, coaches, and students from the East Lycoming School District.
