Muncy locals Nov. 8, 2017
Veteran’s Day is Saturday, and a reminder to put out your flag. We have stories this week on veterans, a flag ceremony and a WWI quilt.
The East Lycoming YMCA wants to remind everyone there is a competitive children’s swim team to join over the cold months. The program, The EELS Swim Team will run until the end of March. Stop at the front desk or call Christina Boughton, the new aquatics director for more details. Practice times vary from 2 to 4 times a week.
Watch out for those deer! This time of year they are more open to our roadways, just about any time of day. Pennsylvania ranks third nationally. In State Farm’s annual report, it says PA drivers have a 1-in-63 chance of experiencing a collision with a deer or other large animal; that’s a 6.3 percent increase from 2016.
PennDot has announced that a color coded map will be available for us to see the entire state and what roads have been maintained and plowed. This is made possible by their recently acquired automated vehicle location technology. It works through a cellular signal showing truck locations. Just visit www.511PA.com and go to “plow trucks” section. Did you know we have nearly 40,000 miles of state roads to maintain here in Pennsylvania? No doubt, we are coming upon a season of ice and snow, so be careful everyone!
