Christmas may be coming, but for one child in Montgomery the best gift they get this season might just be a brand-new shiny red Ancheer scooter that’s anxiously awaiting a new home. The scooter is the prize for a drawing for children ages 12 and under at the Montgomery Area Public Library and was generously donated by Craig and Shirley Gallagher. Kids can get one entry each time they visit the library and check out at least one book. The contest will run until December 30th, and the winner will be drawn on January 2nd by the library board at their monthly meeting. So make sure that you take your kids to the library so they can get their entries in, and remind them that reading is a good way to stay on Santa’s “Nice” list.
While your kids are at the library, tell them to keep their eyes peeled for pictures of candy canes throughout the building. If they can spot all twelve, they win a candy cane. The locations of the pictures are changed each week.
While the scooter drawing may be for ages 12 and under, everyone is eligible to get an entry for the monthly “Check It Out” contest each time they check out books. And while you’re at the library, make sure to pop into their book store this month they are offering gently used books for one dollar a bag.
Lastly, if you’re reluctant to go into the library because you have some overdue fines, the library is cutting all overdue fees in half until December 31st.

Update from the Montgomery Christmas Committee: As of this week, the greatest need right now are toys for boys and girls ages 4-12. The committee is still happily accepting toys for ages newborn and up in Toys for Tots boxes in Montgomery and Clinton Township. Monetary donations for the Christmas Dinner boxes can be made at the Montgomery Borough Office.

Weds. Dec. 6 – The Montgomery Area Public Library will host Toddler Tales from 11-noon. Please pre-register at 547-6212 and plan to accompany your child.
Thurs. Dec. 7 & Fri. Dec 8 – Virtuoso will perform their winter play “12 Angry Jurors” at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Sat. Dec. 9 – The Adam Room and the Montgomery Historical Society will be open from 10-1.
Sat. Dec. 9 The Montgomery Christmas Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Santa Claus will arrive on a fire truck and travel to his house by the post office. The Lions Club will be serving hotdogs, cocoa, and cookies and Summer Alive will have crafts and games for kids. All events are free, but the Lions Club is asking that everyone please donate a new toy or a canned good. If the weather is bad, the parade will be rescheduled for December 16th at 1 pm.
Mon. Dec. 11 The Clinton Township Supervisors will meet in the Municipal Building at 6:30 p.m.
Tues. Dec. 12 The Montgomery Borough Council will meet in the Borough Building at 6:30 p.m.
Tues. Dec. 12 Re-Creation USA will be singing at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Elimsport. This will be a very entertaining live performance of this non-profit touring group that has performed for the President of the United States and provided more than 300 shows in all 50 states. They are known as “America’s Ambassadors to Hospitalized Veterans.” For more information contact Deb Smith at 570-547-6156.
