Muncy Locals Dec. 20, 2017
This week Rep. Garth Everett hosted a telephone town hall meeting on leading legislative issues such as the budget and reform legislation passed recently, the proposed Marcellus Shale severance tax, legislative redistricting and education funding.
At the beginning of the month I attended a program at the Muncy Public Library on squashes and growing lettuce indoors. If you would like to know more about growing your own food and how to stay healthy I highly recommend these sessions that will be held the third Monday of every month starting January 15. The library gave me a tray with a dome, some organic soil with fertilizer and a variety of lettuce seeds. It was truly an educational experience. Next month there is going to be a session on garden planning, crop rotation, companion plantings and ordering heirloom seeds. The library is going to continue to provide resources and books for us to learn as much as we want on organic gardening and nutritional healing.
While on the subject of the library, Crystal Millard copied some trivia facts about Muncy from a trivia game made about Muncy back in the early 90s. Look for some of these facts to be printed in the Luminary.
The Muncy Bank & Trust decorated their windows with colorful mittens and hats, a first time project for them and will be given out through the Salvation Army this week.
Congratulations to Rebecca Dgien, a junior at Muncy and a member of the 4-H Club for recently winning the Sweepstakes award for her market steer project and for being the 4-H student of the month through the Penn State Cooperative Extension office. She has helped with extra projects at the fair and is a member of several other youth organizations in her community including the National Honor Society.
This will be our final issue for the year 2017. I look forward to some time off and will be heading for some warmer climate for the remaining of the month. The next Luminary issue will be on January 3, 2018.
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday and a very Merry Christmas.
