Muncy Locals Jan. 3, 2018
It is hard to believe that the new year is upon us, and during this time we may do some goal setting to get us through. Last year I did accomplish the few goals I set out to do. My goals are always financially high, but deemed necessary as I think most of them are health related. For example, new glasses were over $500, not covered by insurance, and there was a food allergy test also in the same price range that wasn’t covered by medical insurance. Added to the list are dental implants, not covered, and had to be moved to a 2018 goal.
Towards the end of 2017, I did manage to purchase a smart phone, a big step up from the flip phone I was using. You may see me out and about using the camera phone rather than the company camera, as I find it easier to carry, along with my notebook. It takes rather good pictures for the newspaper, and our website, plus I always have it with me.
The challenge is the learning curve, as I am learning everything new. It took over three and a half hours waiting for my turn at the Verizon store, and it wasn’t even close to Christmas when I bought it. Now I am finding there are updates and newer things to learn. You can imagine my embarrassment when a freshman at Hughesville High School said I had my camera phone upside down while trying to take their photo. I am learning!
I like the idea I can carry a lot less with me now, because everything is being managed on that iPhone. Elementary students are learning on chromebooks, and I recall my first Apple laptop had 512 MBs back in the early 90s. Now I have a phone with 64 GBs. (I had to learn that too!)
As for the new year, I would like to see the Luminary give back to you, the readers, more history from the past (before our time), stories about the people and places here, and stories and news that pertain to us seniors, those of us who still like to read the newspaper, even if it is on a smart phone!
Happy New Year everyone!
