Muncy Locals Jan. 24, 2018
I have made a visit or two at the Meck Senior Center and discovered some new programs that are beneficial to all of us who are over 60. The Step ‘N Out program is really taking off and many of the scheduled excursions fill up quickly. The first week in February has 3 scheduled with the first one coming up on Feb. 6th to Happy Valley Winery and the Nittany Mall in State College which is just about full. There is another trip on Feb. 7th to Hollywood Casino and I think that bus also is getting full. These trips are brought to us by the Office of Aging through STEP and are a great way to get out to see some sights without worrying about doing the driving. Registration for each trip is required two weeks in advance, and there are plenty of choices each month. Some leave from different senior centers in the county and everyone pays for their own meals and admission fees. The one on Feb. 8 goes to Purity Candy and leaves from the Lincoln Senior Center. All transportation is free. The full schedule is posted at Muncy’s Meck Senior Center.
Also at the Meck Senior Center to help us get through the drudgery of winter are some low impact exercises that are fun and heart healthy. Healthy Steps in Motion is held every Tues. at 10:15 a.m. at the center and again on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Jessica Vance who is the director will start Line Dancing on Weds. Jan. 31st and this will happen the last Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. in the Blue Room of the ELYMCA. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Just call 546-2542 to register. These classes are free if you are over 60.
Card night is fun at the Meck Senior Center and held the last Friday of every month starting at 5 p.m. Everyone brings a dish and enjoys a game of Setback, Gin Rumney, Manipulation or Face Ten. Word has it that as many as 15 to 20 show up to play.
Students from Myers Elementary school visited the Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center over the holiday season and presented a “Christmas Around the World” program and read the poem “The Night Before Christmas”. Residents said they also made them some cards and brought some of their art projects to pass around. They said it was “very uplifting.” On Monday, January 29 the FBLA students from Muncy High School will be having a game night at the nursing center.
Just think, January is almost over!
