Montgomery Area High School held its first Evening of the Arts on Thursday, April 5th. The doors were opened and the public was treated to a variety of musical performances and displays in fine, graphic, photography, technology, engineering, manufacturing, robotics, and culinary arts.

Virtuoso previewed some songs from their upcoming musical “Into the Woods” and it will surely be great show. A number of instrumental pieces were performed by band students as individuals and in small groups. Some of the highlights included a saxophone quartet that played “Don’t Stop Believing” much to the delight of 1980s music fans, and Rachel Strouse wowed the crowd with “La Vie en Rose” in which she both sang and performed a trumpet solo. Rebecca Strouse performed a piece on her saxophone and had some digital photographs of her artwork on display. The actual art pieces themselves were out of town in an exhibit elsewhere as she is currently nominated as a WVIA Visual Artist of the Year.

The Media Center, as the former high school library is now known, featured an impressive display of model robots that will be headed for an upcoming competition, as well as a variety of electronics and manufacturing projects. One particularly impressive display was a book that students not only wrote and illustrated, but they recorded the text of the book into an mp3 player that they built themselves.

Montgomery is very blessed to have not only a bevy of talented young people, but a talented group of faculty members that work hard every day to inspire them to achieve and grow to their full potential.

Happy 18th birthday to Zoe Fink who will be marking her special day on April 13th.

Advance tickets for Montgomery Virtuoso’s production of “Into the Woods” are available online at www.showtix4u.com. The show will be performed on April 27th and 28th at 7 p.m. and on April 29th at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door depending on availability two hours before each show.

Hometown Hero Banner order forms are being accepted anytime between now and August. They are available at Montgomery Weis Market, Montgomery Borough Office, and the Clinton Township Office.

Sat. Apr .14 The Montgomery Area Historical Society will have an Open House at the Adam Room on West Houston Avenue from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Sat. Apr. 14 Tina Tickle will have a Ceramic Paint Party in the dining room at Riverside Campground from 1-4 p.m.

Tues. Apr. 17 There will be a fundraiser to support the Montgomery Area Alumni Association from 5-8 p.m. at Muncy Wendy’s.

Tues. Apr. 17 Family Movie Night will be held at the library from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Popcorn will be served. Please preregister at 547-6212 or through Facebook.

Weds. Apr. 18 Toddler Tales will be held at the library from 11-noon.

Fri. Apr 20 The library will hold Teen Chat and Chew from 4-5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Teens can talk about books, fandom, and similar topics.
