Muncy Locals Apr. 18, 2018
Today the Superstars from the East Lycoming YMCA are going to Harrisburg for the day with Rep. Garth Everett. They are having a send-off at 8:30 a.m. and will arrive at the Capital where they will enjoy some lunch. After lunch they are performing their drumming skills for about an hour or so. Diana Logan has organized this and with the help of volunteers, they loaded a trailer last night with all of their equipment.
Sunday is Earth Day and I am certainly looking forward to warmer weather and doing activities outdoors. There are clean-up days and an effort nationally is being made to reduce our usage of plastic. Think about all the plastic disposables from bottles to straws to cups and bags – it is endless. To battle the problem, Earth Day Network has some inspiring environmental activities going on across our country to make a difference. Go to earthday.org to view some of them. Some of the beaches seem to be in the worst condition with a lot of plastic bags and bottles lining the shorelines. And some cities are banning the use of plastic straws. I really have to remember harder to use those reusable tote bags that I keep in my car for when I go shopping.
The Muncy Baptist Church on W. Penn Street recently went through a renovation, and now will be offering a new kitchen to the community with food servings. They installed commercial grade appliances and Pastor Rob Rice said it was quite an undertaking at a cost of $250,000. Everything is mostly ground level and now handicap accessible.
The Muncy Valley Hospital has a new director and the York Street Market Cafe at the Muncy Skilled Nursing Center has added a gluten-free menu and many vegan options, plus sushi and kosher.
Think spring – baseball season is just around the corner.
