Muncy Locals July 4, 2018l

By Staff | Jul 3, 2018

Happy summer everyone. Today is the fourth of July and with it comes fireworks. There is a new law that allows Pennsylvanians to buy consumer type fireworks which can be more harmful if not used properly. Those bottle rockets are a lure, but they can be dangerous.

We came across an interesting story in one of the old Luminary’s while doing Peeks of the Past. I must give great credit to a Muncy high school graduate from 1964 who graduated from Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill. with a degree in engineering. Linda Wiser was the only female in the entire university with an engineering degree, and it was electrical engineering. She then went to work for IBM in Illinois.

The Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius of the Villa Sacred Heart in Danville will be having their annual summer festival at the Basilica on Saturday, July 14 from 10:30 to 5 and ask for your support.

Also on July 14 be sure to visit the county gardens grown by the Master Gardeners, just off Warrensville Road. From 10 to 11 a.m. they will be showing you how to experience deadheading which produces more blooming flowers.

The Muncy Garden Club has been busy meeting Tuesday nights to plan the horticultural schedule for the Lycoming County Fair. On July 9th they will begin cleaning the building and setting up the floral displays. All entries are due this week, and up to 24 entries can be made for just 2 dollars.

The Son-Light House got a new sign for the building on Carpenter Street and the parking lot will be sealed this summer as well as new awnings coming soon. So be sure to check out their new “look”. Donations are accepted every Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 7-10.

Local blueberries are now ready for picking within the next two weeks, I was told, and the heat has progressed their ripening for an earlier season.

And finally don’t forget about the hunting for history passes that are eligible for free prizes. Many of the museums are hosting events that qualify, so every time you visit a museum or historical society here in Lycoming County ask for the form to fill out to win prizes. Winners will be drawn November 21st. The Muncy Quilt Show will be here on July 13 and 14 so you can fill out a form at that event to win something.
