Hughesville Locals Sept. 6, 2018
It looks like our weather is going to continue the summer’s pattern, with days with showers and some sun. It makes it hard to plan for outdoor activities, but is really encouraging ripening and growth in our backyard gardens. It has been tough to find a time for serious star-gazing recently. I seem to have time on those evenings when the clouds are obscuring the whole sky, but don’t get out there when it’s clear! And, of course, there is the horde of mosquitoes waiting for me to step outside the door. Strong bug repellent doesn’t seem to completely deter them. While the days are slipping away when the planets can be seen in the summer’s dazzling line-up, this month, at dusk when the sky is clear we should be able to see the brilliant star Arcturus, Venus, low in the west, and Jupiter forming an unmistakable triangle in the southwestern sky.
Much more locally, we have many things going on. Hughesville Area Public Library has a full schedule of children’s activities, plus events for older readers and lots of great reading and listening/viewing material. If you haven’t visited in a while, dust off your library card and head over to this local gem.
