Hughesville Locals Sept. 19, 2018
I hope that anyone who was adversely affected by the remnant of Tropical Storm Florence is getting things back to normal. The recovery in the Carolinas will be a long-term effort, and as photos emerge it is tough to imagine the huge area that is involved. Many local residents have ties to the coastal communities from Charleston, SC to Cape Hatteras, NC and the towns that line the rivers for many miles inland. I expect that, as roads open up and needs become known, there will be many opportunities for us to assist in the recovery.
What a glorious sight it was to see sunshine and blue skies for the Balloon Fest last weekend! We need many more such days, although I would prefer about 50 percent less humidity! My outdoor chores are being ignored because I find I cannot tolerate the thick, sticky air, especially when the temperature is 85 or more degrees. One of the chores that had to be done was taking down our pool and storing it for the winter. I hate to see it disappear from the yard, but it’s inevitable. Sunday, September 23, 2018 is the first day of autumn, so I must say good-bye to summer.
