Muncy Locals Oct. 10, 2018

By Staff | Oct 10, 2018

This is fire prevention week and a good time to get a handle on precautions. According to the American Trauma Society, in a typical fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Knowing how to use that brief amount of time wisely takes planning and practice. “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” they say. Take the time now to plan an escape route and make sure you have working smoke alarms.

This month The Triad Center in Muncy will be offering our space to a peer run support group for parents that have experienced a death of a child or for parents that are caring for a terminally ill child. This group is an open support group that will offer parents compassion, understanding and a place to connect. Owner Brittany Dincher wants you to know that you are not alone in this journey! There are no dues or fees for this group, and times and dates will be determined upon participant need.

If you are or know someone that may be in need of her support group please contact: The Triad Center at 570-772-4269 or at the triadcenter@gmail.com.

I am very grateful for these warm days of October, open windows and singing birds in the morning. Heritage Days in Turbotville had a good weekend with attendance and warm weather, possibly being too warm on Sunday. My husband and I went to the Lake Fest where I purchased some small pottery pieces from Linda Campbell and a beautiful sculpture with a rain gauge for my garden from Kris Robbins. Kris will be at the upcoming artists and exhibition show sponsored by the Muncy Historical Society.

I am looking forward to the Muncy Library fundraiser held at the end of this month. They are having a Murder Mystery dinner at the 1st United Methodist Church and the performers are from the Community Theater League in Williamsport. Enjoy some lasagna and help solve a mystery! You can get your ticket at the Library. Also at that same location a Christmas show is being planned for the first of December and vendors are wanted. If interested in selling your wares, call Joyce McCarty at 546-8910. And that very same church is preparing for their annual Christmas Cantata choir. Rehearsals start tomorrow and every Thursday evening until the performance on Dec. 16. If interested in joining them, call 546-8030.

Motto Mortgage on 17 S. Main Street is having a food drive this month for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Drop non-perishable items off at their office during opening hours.

There are more festivals this weekend, but I think a great event to attend will be the nature dog walk at Trinity Farms on Sunday. It’s called Tail on the Trails and funds will benefit the Lycoming SPCA. It is a half mile loop and an easy walk for kids and older adults and older dogs. You can register ahead of time on the SPCA website or call 220-9143. It is a first time community event for our area.
