Hughesville Locals Oct. 31, 2018
November is upon us, and the chill in the air is very much what autumn ought to be. This year’s pattern of frequent rain is making it rather more dismal than it might otherwise be, but at least we aren’t facing the wild and destructive types of weather that many areas of the country have had. We will all be delighted to have some sunny days!
Hughesville is hosting the Lycoming County Veteran’s Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 10. I saw some new and some additional flags in place on Main Street, and there are also a large number of Hometown Hero commemorative banners that were recently installed. I hope we will see a large number of people who attend the parade as we welcome the county and observe the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. Local churches and organizations will be marking that anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 11 as well, with the ringing of church bells at 11 a.m. When you hear the bells, if you don’t happen to be in one of the churches, pleases join in a moment of reflection about the sacrifices made by people across the world to defend freedom.
Congratulations to Francis Frantz in his first concert with the men’s barbershop singers in the West Branch Chorus hosted by the Community Theatre League in Williamsport last Saturday, Oct. 27.
