Muncy Locals Oct. Nov. 7, 2018

By Staff | Nov 7, 2018

Congratulations to Mark Kreisher, a Muncy Elementary School school teacher, who is getting funding for modeling software needed for the students to build 3D printers. The announcement was made last Wednesday from the PPL Foundation who is supplying a grant of $1,000. Muncy was one of 25 schools to receive this innovative education grant from PPL since its inception in 2003.

Also announced were some school safety grants to all three schools in the tri-town area. These grants were created through a new state school and safety Security Grant Program for a wide variety of projects to improve school safety. Each school received $25,000. According to Senator Yaw the new program and bill was created in June as part of a comprehensive study on school safety. More than 60 million has been allocated in Pennsylvania for this project under this year’s current budget.

The Muncy Sheetz just off Rt. 405 or 45 Muncy Creek Blvd., just announced they are offering beer sales here now, and are one of 25 locations in Pennsylvania to do so. Muncy Sheetz is the only location in Lycoming County to offer beer sales. They also will be giving away free lunches and a car wash to all veterans on Veterans Day!

This month is National Diabetes Awareness month. According to a study by the Center of Disease Control, nearly 18,000 people younger than 20 are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes each year. Geisinger is offering some programs to help kids deal with diabetes. They provide information and books to help them understand diabetes.

November also is Homecare and Hospice Month. Babyboomers, like myself, are changing the direction of health care. We want to stay in our homes as long as possible, and we are looking ahead to keeping our homes and living on one level. The PA Homecare Association reports that one million PA residents receive care at home, “or nearly 100 new consumers every hour.” I can see major job growth for home-based care agencies in the near future.

In fact on October 23 Tammy Avery Weber spoke to us about saving our homes from a nursing home in case of a health crisis at the Muncy Public Library and offered a wealth of information.
