Did you ever see something strange and wonder “Who in the world comes up with this stuff?” That was the reaction I had when I found out that November 19th is “Have a Bad Day Day.” According to the legend posted on HolidayInsights.com, the day was created with the intention of letting sales people wish their customers a bad day instead of a good day.

I couldn’t help but notice that November 20 is “Absurdity Day,” but there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. I guess it’s appropriate considering the day that comes before it.

While some holidays and appreciation days are wonderful traditions, there are more bizarre holidays than days of the year. There are also strange monthly observances such as June being declared National Accordion Awareness Month, and weekly observances such as National Bubble Week, which is the second week in March.

I’m not sure how these things come to be, but I wonder what’s involved in the process? Do you think if we all got together and requested that Monday be declared the third day of the weekend, we could pull it off? That would be one strange observance that I could really support.

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Halloween Parade. The Montgomery Lions Club has announced that the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company won first place, the Elementary Cheerleaders won second place, and that King’s Garage won third place.

Montgomery Events

Thurs. Nov. 15 The Montgomery Area Historical Society will host a Third Thursday Talk at 6:30. The featured topic will be Byron “Rube” Yarrison, a Montgomery-born athlete who was the first local person to play Major League Baseball. The lecture will be given by Mike Reuther of the Sun-Gazette. The program will be held in the Adam Room and will be followed by an Open House. The event is free and open to the public.

Fri. Nov. 16 Teen Trivia will be held at the library from 4:30-5:30. Prizes will be given to the winners.

Sat. Nov. 17 The Clinton Baptist Church will have a free Community Lunch from noon-2.

Weds. Nov. 21 Toddler Tales will be held at the library from 11-noon. The theme will be Turkey Tales.

Thurs. Nov. 22 The Montgomery Lions Club will host their annual Thanksgiving Dinner from 11-2 at the Club Hall on Main Street. Members of the community are invited to eat-in or carry-out. They will also provide local delivery for the elderly or handicapped who cannot leave their home. For delivery arrangements please call 547-1953. The dinner is free and donations are appreciated.
