Muncy Locals Nov. 21, 2018
This November is traveling fast with Thanksgiving coming upon us tomorrow. I am trying to make the transition into Christmas, and it is getting harder to keep up with all the wonderful things our small towns have to offer from tree lighting ceremonies, train shows, Santa visits and more parades.
The hospital auxiliaries have scheduled their lights of love displays and some interesting fundraisers coming up at the hospitals. On Nov. 27 and Dec. 4 the lobby of Williamsport Hospital will have local handcrafted jewelry for sale and again on Nov. 28 and Dec. 5 at Divine Providence Hospital’s main lobby. Look for purses and designer bags on Dec 11 at Williamsport and Dec. 12 at Divine.
Don’t forget Toys for Tots. Our office has a bin, and you can bring in a new, unwrapped toy Monday through Friday up until Dec. 17.
Last month the Son-Light House in Muncy served 607 households and 1,458 individuals. Our help is greatly appreciated and so are the donations this holiday season. The locally Touch-A-Heart at Christmas will continue to supply gifts for children up to age 17 and registration is underway.
The Muncy Professional Business Association is wrapping up the year with a social holiday mixer on Dec. 6 at Orlando’s Restaurant.
Santa will be arriving at the Post Office on Sat. Dec. 1. With 8 inches of snow in our yard last Thursday, and much of it is still around, winter is here, even though the date isn’t officially until Dec. 21. I was at the mall on Saturday hoping to beat the rush of black Friday, but it was well attended. Despite the snow mounds, many cars were in the parking lot and holiday music and full inventories in the stores were inviting.
Make a holiday centerpiece with fresh cut greens with the Master Gardeners coming up Dec. 1 and Dec. 9 from ten to noon. Call them at 433-3040.
Accolades go to the Vineyard Community Activity Center in Muncy. On Nov. 27 they will be celebrating 21 years of service to the community by providing local youth nights all supervised by caring adult volunteers. Some of those individuals are Jim Savage, Cindy Collister, Matt Savage, Bonnie Laidacker, Harold Heddings, Candy Winters Kathy Rood and George Collister.
There were several cancellations on Thursday due to the significant snow storm. The Muncy Garden Club had to cancel their craft night, the SVQG had to cancel their meeting and program and schools were off Friday.
I can see a forecast for a wet winter. Let’s be careful out there and Happy Thanksgiving!
