Muncy locals Dec. 19, 2018

By Staff | Dec 21, 2018

This will be our last issue for 2018 for the Luminary, and I wish all dedicated readers a very Merry Christmas. There will be 5 Luminary newspapers printed in January of 2019 starting Wednesday, Jan. 2 which takes a look back to 2018 and highlights the year.

While on Christmas break, look for some old documents from Muncy Hospital. UPMC Susquehanna Muncy is partnering with the Muncy Historical Society to create a space to display historical artifacts inside the hospital. This new heritage room will be devoted to the history of the Muncy Valley Hospital since it first began at the famous Noble House which I have featured in The Luminary. UPMC is asking all community members if they have any related photographys, artifacts, documents, or anything dating back to the hospital. If you do, call the Muncy Historical Society at 570-546-5917.

This past weekend was Paul Metzger’s first signing of Deeds of the Valley. His extensive research has finally made it to include exclusive, limited first editions that will be available until the end of December through the Muncy Historical Society. Paul will have some copies to sign again this Saturday, Dec. 22 at the museum in Muncy starting at 2 p.m. This would make an excellent, one-of-a-kind gift for Christmas, especially if you know of someone who is a descendant from the village of Alvira before the Ordnance was built. The service was just held over the weekend at the Stone Church which is featured on the front cover.

New officers have been elected for the Muncy Professional Business Association for 2019. Ann Marie Baker will remain as President, Adam Rearick is Vice-President, Angie Dreisbach is Secretary and Melissa Poust is Assistant Treasurer with an opening position for Treasurer remaining. Meetings will resume the first Thursday of the month at Orlando’s.

I am looking forward to some quiet time over break, and trying to figure out how to drive my new car. It starts with a power button and the dashboard isn’t anything like my 2002 Honda Accord, which I thought was state of the art technology back then. My first road trip, of many to come, I hope, will be to my brother’s retirement party in Lancaster.

Enjoy family everyone, and enjoy the season.
