Hughesville Locals Jan. 16, 2019

By Staff | Jan 16, 2019

Winter storms have been affecting many areas of the country, but we have seen little need for snow shovels and ice-melt. January has been rather uneventful here in Lycoming County. Of course, every year has its own particular pattern of snow, ice, and rain events, and central Pennsylvania is often on the northern or southern edge of storm systems, so each year is unique.

A great opportunity to have fun and get some exercise is the Ballroom Dance classes at Ashkar Elementary Gym on Tuesday evenings. The Glidewells will help you learn all the steps in their 8-week sessions of Beginner East Coast Swing and Intermediate Salsa and Bachata. Get out your dancing shoes and try it out!

HHS music students are participating in District Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Festivals this month and next. Eric Karschner played bassoon in the District Orchestra concert last week and will travel to Montoursville for District Band, January 23, 24 & 25. Five chorus students, Eric Karschner, Katherine Worrall, Nathaniel Lewis, Ben McGovern, and Asiah Savage, will represent HHS at the District Chorus Festival on February 9, 10, & 11, in Williamsport. Mr. Geoffrey Harman, HHS band director, and Mr. Brian Barckley is the HHS choral director. Both will accompany their students to the music festivals. Good luck to all the students as they compete for chair placement and advancement to the Region Festivals in February and March, and the State Festival in Pittsburgh in April!
