Hughesville Locals Jan. 23, 2019
Well, we finally have some snow on the ground, so it looks like true winter. The storm last weekend wasn’t too bad, although the cold air that followed the snow has really made me bundle up and want to stay indoors. Much as I have wanted to have some snow, I was concerned that this system coincided with the lunar eclipse. However, the sky cleared before the eclipse began, and while it occurred around midnight, was a phenomenal sight to see! I’m glad I stayed up for it, but I only had short views since the temperature was by then only 8 degrees!
As the schools begin the second semester, winter sports teams are rearing the end of their regular seasons, and schedules are being set for playoff and advanced competition. If you haven’t made time to go cheer for the Spartan wrestlers or “hoopsters”, now is the time to do it!
The Greater Hughesville Business Association (GHBA) is an active group of local business owners and retailers that sponsors many local events and parades, including the annual “5 to Drive” local shopping campaign. In 2018 there were nearly 30 prizes awarded to lucky participants, many of them local residents. If you have a business and would like to gain the exposure and advertising advantage of membership, GHBA welcomes you. They are also getting ready to elect some new board members, so it’s a great time to join.
Enjoy the winter weather, and stay warm and safe. If you’re driving, watch for pedestrians and kids who are dealing with snow and ice-covered walks and intersections, and be cautious when approaching turns or stops!
