Hughesville Locals Feb. 13, 2019

By Staff | Feb 13, 2019

Winter isn’t giving up its icy grip on us yet, is it? The recent weeks have seen a series of storms march across the country, and each one has taken a slightly different track and brought us quite a variety of weather. I will be happy if we don’t experience any more of the sub-zero temperature. And the sixty-degree teaser last week was almost mean-spirited, since we know there is much more to come before that mild, balmy sort of thing can stick around. Whatever may come, I know we probably should keep our ice scrapers and snow shovels handy for at least the next month.

I have noticed a few signs of the promise of spring some of my early daffodils are poking their noses up, even out away from the house, and when the sun does shine it seems to have more warming power on my face. I’m sure its higher course across the sky makes its rays more direct, so each day we can see that any snow or ice will melt more quickly than the day before. Enjoy these last weeks of our winter!

It’s time for high school sports teams to have their end-of-season playoffs and region-wide match-ups. Make sure you check the online schedule or print sports sections for updates on which teams are advancing to the next level of competition. Wrestlers, swimmers, basketball players, and track athletes are trying to take their places in the record books, so head on out and cheer for all the Spartans!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
