Hughesville Locals Mar. 6, 2019

By Staff | Mar 7, 2019

We have been dealing with snow for long enough, don’t you think? I know that the end of wintry weather will be welcome and hope the current cold spell will be our last until at least November! But as I viewed the falling snow one evening recently, I was reminded of one of my favorite poems, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost.

“Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. . . . And I have miles to go before I sleep, And I have miles to go before I sleep.”

If you aren’t familiar with the whole poem (there are just three more stanzas) I encourage you to look it up. This time of year is great for finding some good poetry to enjoy, as well as a great time for jigsaw puzzles. And I have recently decided that I really need to spend some serious effort to sort and label the hundreds of photos that I have collected over the past many years. I have been intending to get to that job for more years than I care to admit, and I hope that I can make some real progress before too many more weeks have gone by. I will keep you posted on my progress!

It’s good to know that the local school districts are still producing athletes who can compete at state level. There are two Hughesville wrestlers, Ben Heinrich and Luke Gorg, who will be traveling to the State Matches in Hershey this week and we wish them the best! Muncy High School will be represented by several wrestlers, also. Lycoming County has a long tradition of top-notch wrestlers and we hope that will continue.

Hughesville Area Public Library is preparing the next series of children’s programs, so there are fewer things on the schedule for this week. Stop by the library to pick up your copy of the new list, which includes many fun events that will take place now through May.

Now that Lent has begun, many of our local churches will be having extra worship services. Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 South Main Street, Hughesville, will have weekly Lenten services at 7 p.m. each Wednesday. Some congregations will be combining with others for a series of services. All are welcome to attend and participate in this annual exploration of the meaning of preparation, repentance, and the Easter blessings to come. Please check with the church of your choice for times and location of worship opportunities.
