Hughesville Locals Mar. 20, 2019
Spring has arrived – well, at least that’s what the calendar says. The angle of light coming in my windows is definitely different than it was just a month ago, and the sky is turning a true summer-like shade of blue. Isn’t it amazing how quickly the daffodil, crocus, and tulip buds have developed and grown? It won’t be long now until color begins to erupt in our flower beds and along walls and porches.
Students in our local schools are working on many different projects and activities, both those of a scholastic nature and competitive athletic events. Also, many students are hard at work preparing this year’s musical production, “The Addams Family.” The show will be performed in mid-April and is sure to be a fun, energetic entertainment. Watch for more details as the time grows closer.
To commemorate the beginning of this most welcome change of season, here are a few quotations about Spring:
“In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours.” Mark Twain
“Spring is sooner recognized by plants than by men.” Chinese Proverb
“The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring.” Bern Williams
“First a howling blizzard woke us,?Then the rain came down to soak us,?And now before the eye can focus -?Crocus.” Lilja Rogers
“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
