Slow and steady seems to be the progress of Spring this year. A few frosty mornings in the past week or so have kept tree buds and sprouting bulbs from fast development, but I think we may have “turned the corner” and can leave Winter behind. I haven’t spoken to anyone who is sad at that prospect!

One of the annual highlights for this time of year is the HHS Musical production. This year’s show is “The Addams Family” and promises to be a fun entertainment. The performances will be on Friday and Saturday, so plan to take your seats and indulge in a great time.

Another fun way to spend some time is to watch HHS student-athletes playing tennis, softball, baseball, or soccer. Get your copy of the Spring sports schedule so you can follow the teams in both home and away contests.

Our schools are also busy with the annual PSSA testing(Pennsylvania’ standardized tests for Language Arts, Math, and Science). Students are encouraged to rest well and eat a good breakfast before test days, just so they are in good shape for the mental exercise. They’ve all been preparing for these assessments throughout the school year, so we hope it is a good experience for students, teachers, and administrators!

Next week is Holy Week, the final week of Lent in the Christian calendar and local churches will hold services at various times in commemoration of the culminating week of the life of Christ. The following Sunday, of course, is Easter, which falls on nearly the latest possible date. The local schools will have a five-day spring/Easter break, from the 19th through the 23rd, then the final flurry of testing, competitions, and celebrations will fill up the remainder of April and all of May.

Fri. Apr. 12 “Wee Build” program at Hughesville Area Public Library (HAPL), 146 South Fifth St. 10:30- 11:30 a.m., for children ages 3 and up and their caregivers. Building materials for creative fun are provided for individual use. No registration is required for this fun event.

Tues. Apr. 16 HHS Girls and Boys Junior High Soccer vs. Warrior Run, Girls game at 4:30 p.m., and Boys game at 5:45 p.m. at the HHS soccer stadium.

Weds. Apr. 17 HHS Boys Tennis vs. Mifflinburg, 4:00 at HHS courts and HHS Varsity Baseball vs. South Williamsport, 4:30 at Bodine Park.
