Hughesville Locals Apr. 17, 2019

By Staff | Apr 18, 2019

Can you believe how much Spring has advanced in the past week? Some of my daffodils seemed to leap into bloom once the air warmed into the 60’s. Our flowering trees will erupt into masses of blossoms in the next few days. It’s great weather for just about everything you could think of doing outdoors, and if you’re like me, the days aren’t long enough to do all the things you want to do. Unfortunately, I get worn out much earlier in the day than I would like, so many things get put off until another day comes along.

Last week at Ashkar Elementary school, following a morning assembly for awards and celebration of the students’ hard work, a disturbing note was found that caused the evacuation of the building. The staff and administration very quickly shepherded all the students over to the high school and kept them calm and safe in the auditorium and turf room until dismissal time. Local and state police units completed a search and safety check of the building and no threat was discovered. While it’s distressing that such things occur, good planning and the competence of our district staff made sure all our children were kept safe from harm.

Be sure to support our HHS student-athletes as they compete this week and next! There are a lot of opportunities to see them at our local venue.
