Hughesville Locals June 12, 2019

By Staff | Jun 13, 2019

June is a wonderful month, don’t you agree? This year it seems especially so, with the warm weather and the burst of greenery and growing things everywhere you look. The promise of a whole summer is ahead of us, and the possibilities for fun time with friends and family seem endless. I hope that I will be able to squeeze out every bit of summer joy!

Now that my garden is finally planted (only a week or 10 days later than I like, but it’s done), I can check to see how many weeds have sprung up and whether any of the seeds I sowed have done so. Each year I promise myself (and my husband) that I will do a better job of keeping up with the weeds, but we all know that’s a promise that’s very relative, since “better” does not necessarily mean “perfect.” Ah, well, the tomatoes are usually able to be found, and don’t seem to mind the extra greenery in the garden, even when it more closely resembles a jungle. And it’s much more fun for m y neighbor’s cats when they can hide in there and jump out at the unwary.

Progress continues on the major renovation of the intersection at the north end of Main Street, although I understand that it will not be totally complete for some time, perhaps a couple of years, so please be patient with the occasional one-lane traffic pattern, and use alternate routes if possible. There have been other street and water department jobs going on, so watch for workers doing what they can to improve things for all of us, and please give them plenty of space to work and stay safe!
