Muncy Locals June 26, 2019
Now that summer is finally here, a few of our local businesses have some tips to survive the heat. Muncy Restoration Works suggests getting your car checked, making sure your AC is working properly, tire pressure is accurate and the battery is charged for long trips. Local auto shops will test your battery for free.
The PA Veterinary Medical Association recommends keeping your pets out of the heat and away from hot cars while unattended. Always give them proper ventilation.
Weis Markets just announced their stores raised $312,000 for more than 120 local animal shelters and pet rescue organizations during its eleventh annual Paws for Pets program. Donations from our area benefitted the Lycoming County SPCA.
It’s festival time and I am looking forward to a duo time at the Muncy 4th Friday street festival and Church of the Resurrection Parish Festival on Saturday. That means I won’t have to cook a meal and be able to enjoy the great food offered at these events. There’s fun and games for everyone, all ages.
On Tuesday, July 2nd, eat dinner at Wendy’s from 5 to 8 p.m. and ten percent of all sales will help the Pennsdale UM Church.
On Monday, June 24, 2019 we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Pennsylvania’s ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. The wife of the Governor, Frances Wolf, encouraged us to wear white that day in support of the suffragettes, many of them Quakers, who did the same 100 years ago to get us our right to vote. Featuring the ‘Justice Bell’ a logo has been created for Pennsylvania organizations to use to mark efforts celebrating this 100 anniversary. Pennsylvania is home to the Justice Bell at the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Park. The logo is available to download at pa.gov/women-vote. The Pennsylvania General Assembly voted to provide women the right to vote on June 24, 1919, and it became national law August 26, 1920.
