Hughesville Locals July 10, 2019

By Staff | Jul 11, 2019

It’s time for the Lycoming County Fair! We’ll be seeing and hearing many of the sights and sounds that the fair brings, and will have the opportunity to welcome visitors from all around the region to our community. Monday, the 15th, is MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY when admission is free all day for those with valid military ID. Tuesday, the 16th, is YOUTH DAY, and Wednesday, the 17th is SENIOR CITIZENS DAY, admission free all day for those with valid ID. Rides are not included in the low admission price for anyone at any time.

HHS Senior and outstanding athlete Jade Cordrey was one of 18 regional student-athletes recently recognized and celebrated by UPMC Susquehanna Sports Medicine. These athletes were among those who suffered injury during competitive seasons, but who demonstrated an exceptional spirit and drive to recover their physical abilities. Each was selected by their certified athletic trainer for perseverance in overcoming an injury to return to play during the school year. Congratulations to Jade on her return to basketball and softball!

There are some new business locations that make Hughesville’s downtown very appealing. The former bank building adjoining the Post Office has been undergoing a renovation and facelift by Dohl’s Construction, and KVS Computers has moved into their new facility across from the Fire Department, just a block from the Main and Water Streets intersection. Donna’s, a “this and that” type of store, is located in the former auction building, also on Water Street just west of Main Street. Take advantage of the convenience of local businesses and visit Hughesville’s merchants soon!

We are just a week away from the 50th anniversary of the US manned landing on the moon. I have always enjoyed learning about space exploration, so I am looking forward to the observance of this milestone event. The moon is currently waxing towards a full moon on the 16th and the planet Jupiter, along with the star Antares, will be prominent near the moon in early evening in our eastern sky. Saturn is also visible closer to the horizon, so be sure to look for these celestial treats.
