For over four decades, radio announcer LOU KOLB has been “spinning the discs” over area radio stations, and last Saturday on WBZD Oldies 93 FM, Lou signed off the wireless for the final time, retiring to enjoy life. His distinctive voice, sense of humor of viewing life and especially the game “Phraseology”will be missed by many throughout the Susquehanna Valley. The Luminary wishes LOU a well-deserved retirement.

An engraved diamond ring was found in the area of Kathy’s Cafe on Main Street, Hughesville. The ring was dropped off at the Hughesville Borough Police Station, 147 S. 5th St.. on July 26. If anyone has any information on a potential owner, call 570-584-2111 so the ring can be returned to its rightful owner.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz made major points with an 11-year-old fan from Muncy. GIOVANNI HAMILTON suffers from Schwartz-Jampel Syndrome, a disease that affects his muscles, and while in the City of Brotherly Love for a checkup on July 26, Giovanni met his hero during a side visit to the Eagles’ training camp. A video of the meeting can be viewed on Twitter on either the Philadelphia Eagles account or Team Giovanni.

A reader questioned an entry from June 27, 1897 in our popular Peeks of the Past section, which appeared in our July 24 issue. The entry reads ‘A man from the Muncy hills had 756 quarts of strawberries in the market at Danville, Tuesday morning.’ The reader responded “O, for Heavens sake, is this a typo? Please let us know.” The Luminary’s archivist Ruth Fry verified that no typo had been committed, and the number was exactly how it appeared in that 1897 issue. Perhaps it was an error made 140 years ago and never corrected; we will never know for certain.
