Hughesville Locals Aug. 21, 2019

By Staff | Aug 21, 2019

Each gardening season has its successes and failures. This year I have a bumper crop of eggplant, more than I can find recipes for, so we’re enjoying it in new and different ways, but I’m still having a hard time keeping up with the bounty. I planted more seedlings this year since we only had a couple of ripe eggplant last year. But weather and better soil amendments contributed to a perfect combination. Conversely, the peas and carrots I planted never developed into any viable plants, so I will have to buy fresh produce at one of the many options in our area. Other obligations and projects have taken up much of my time lately, so some of the things that Mother Nature has produced are beginning to be overgrown, and I really have to spend some quality time with my canner. Thank goodness for a window air-conditioner in the kitchen, or I’d never survive.

Make sure you get your copy of the school district athletic schedule of events soon, so that you can cheer for the Spartans at their home and away games! Many games and matches are coming up, and the band will play and perform their marching show at every Varsity Football game. Go, Spartans!
