Montgomery Locals 8/28/2019

By Staff | Aug 28, 2019

JADE HEASLEY/The Luminary The First United Methodist Church of Montgomery held their annual Backpack and School Supply Giveaway on Sunday evening, August 18.  The members of the congregation who organized and ran the event are from left: Madison Burleigh, Cassandra Bennett, Deb Shuey, Carrie Bosch, and Mavis Bosch.  About forty-five students attended, and extra supplies are available to those who missed it. Please call the church at 547-6948 and leave a message.

This week has brought the start of another school year and in my opinion, it’s fair game to consider that fall has arrived. Even though it’s not technically autumn until September 23, I’m not letting anyone

rain on my parade. Fall is my favorite season, and I’m looking forward to crisp weather, thick sweaters, falling leaves, Friday night football games at our home field, watching the Red Raider Marching Band, craft

shows, fall festivals, The Pumpkin Roll, Halloween, Virtuoso’s fall play-all of it.

I can’t explain it, but people just seem to be happier in the fall for some reason-not that there aren’t plenty of good people that are happy most of the year, but everyone just seems more content in

the fall. Maybe it’s the optimism that comes with a new school year, perhaps it’s all the sugar from candy corn, or a combination of the two.

Speaking of the new school year, a huge load of thanks goes to the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery for having their annual Backpack and School Supply Giveaway. About forty-five students are heading back to school with new backpacks and school supplies because of the church.

They have extras, so if you know of a child who could use a new backpack or some school supplies, please call the church at 547-6948 and leave a message.

THOT “I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like

pearls slipping off a string.” Lucy Maud Montgomery

Happy birthday to Brenda Crapser, who will be celebrating her special day on August 30.
