Hughesville Local column for September 11, 2019
It’s hard to comprehend that most of the students in our schools were born after the devastating events of September 11, 2001. As we observe Patriot Day, it’s important to remember that attack, and also to honor the service of all who assisted the victims and families whose lives were forever changed. Many things have changed since that day, particularly in our perception of things like freedom of speech, communications privacy, and public safety. We all need to be observant and aware of ways that we can help each other.
My calendar is beginning to fill up with weekend events and grandkids’ athletic schedules. I’m hopeful that we can have many pleasant fall afternoons and evenings and that I will get plenty of outdoor time that isn’t blazing hot or overly humid. And, of course, my garden will keep me busy in those hours when I’m home!
See you at the Rotary Balloonfest or the soccer/softball fields!
