Hughesville Local column for September 25, 2019
Welcome to wonderful Autumn in central Pennsylvania! It’s certainly obvious that we have left summer behind us. I like this time of year, but it is hard to dress for the day. I start out with warm socks and long sleeves, then find myself overheating in mid-afternoon and go change to cooler garb. But if I’m outdoors after sunset, I suddenly want to go back to the long sleeves and add an extra layer or two. Hoodies and cardigans are the go-to item of apparel for most of us, and for those evening soccer or football games, I am unpacking the serious layers, gloves, and warm hats.
Last weekend’s community yard sale day in Picture Rocks appeared to be a huge success. I drove through town mid-morning and it was really bustling! There were many people outside, visiting with each other, arranging items for sale, and generally just enjoying the gorgeous weather. It was similar to the busy-ness in Hughesville a couple of weeks ago when dozens of yard sales occurred. What a great way to help each other attract more buyers and help folks find great bargains. I hope the communities make these annual (or semi-annual?) events.
The north end of Main Street is looking very different as the re-alignment and improvement project continues. I don’t drive that direction very often, so I always am surprised at the changes that have taken place. The culmination will be the traffic light that most of us have looked for over the past many years. I’m sure it will improve traffic flow and safety for everyone.
