Hughesville Local column for October 30, 2019
Halloween is here! Along with the celebrations of that holiday, the beginning of November means the clocks will be set back, (on Sunday, November 3) and we will see fewer hours of sunlight in the afternoon and evening. I’m hopeful that the first few days after the time change will be clear and sunny so the darkness won’t be too overpowering. Dreary November days can be too somber!
One good way to start off the month will be the Rotary Club’s Murder Mystery Dinner and Theater event at the Hughesville Fire Hall this Saturday. A major fund-raiser for the civic group’s many community projects, the evening will feature a meal served in courses and a theatrical production that involves the audience in solving a mystery. Besides the meal and play, there will a basket raffle and 50/50 drawing. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
Congratulations to the HHS Boys and Girls soccer teams who have been busy extending their seasons with playoff games! There have been many exciting moments for both teams this year. Last week also saw the beginning of basketball season for the Junior High girls’ teams as they competed in an early tournament. Best wishes to them, and to all the winter sports athletes as their seasons get underway.
