Muncy Locals 1.15.2020
While it’s typical weather for January in Pennsylvania, frequent remarks heard this week revolve around the first 10 days of 2020. One temperature record was broken, and the sharp contrast in temperatures brought about the most conversation. From frigid temperatures in the ‘teens and a few days later the first measurable snowfall which cancelled school. Then, the humidity kicked in last Saturday, raising the mercury to nearly 68 degrees. I honestly can’t recall the last time in January Husband and I slept with a bedroom window open all night, and it was absolutely invignorating breathing in fresh air.
“Thank you” is simply not enough to say to the multiple emergency service providers which are staffed by volunteers in southeastern Lycoming County. This year alone has seen four house fires-with no injuries recorded, thank God. But in general, fire departments are hurting-not only for funds to continue operating at a minimum monthly basis, but man power. Monetary funds are wonderful if you cannot physically volunteer, but there are many roles within a fire company which don’t require entering a burning structure or rescuing car accident victims. Contact your local fire company and express your interest in helping. They need you!
Volunteers are also needed to serve on the Civil Service Commission and Zoning Hearing Board in Muncy Borough. Volunteers must reside within borough limits. Anyone interested should contact Dennis Holt, Borough Manager either by emailing boromanager@muncyboro.org or calling 570-546-3952 ext. 101.
