Congratulations to Muncy senior Shawn Simmons, who was recognized as Student of the Year during last week’s LycoCTC graduation ceremonies. Shawn attended the Automotive Technology program for the last three years and will continue studying in that field at Penn College. Muncy proud, Shawn!

If you’ve been past dear old Muncy High School, you’ll notice street banners that have been attached to telephone and wire poles surrounding the building. The alma mater banners are compliments of the M Club, spearheaded by club advisors Brooke Walters and Mike Davis.

Brooke Bishop and Greg Stine, those folks behind Muncy’s newest restaurant-Basil Wood-Fired Kitchen and Lounge, are organizing a farmer’s market, beginning June 14. The former carnival grounds will be receiving a face-lift of sorts to host the market and other community events, such as Penn State tailgate parties, cook offs and other benefits. Do you have an ever-growing accumulation of electronics that are no longer useful, broken or outdated? Well, good news! KVS is hosting an “e-cycling” event on Saturday, June 6. Bring items such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, printers, networking gear, stereos, DVD players, cameras, and gaming systems that have suffered from the red ring of death during the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to 71 West Water Street, Hughesville to unload your unwanted electronics. Please note that televisions and household appliances will NOT be accepted. The event benefits the Hughesville Rotary Club, so toss a few dollars to a Rotary member in appreciation.

Carnivals and fairs may have been canceled this summer, but that doesn’t mean we’ll have to miss dining on food associated with those events. Thanks to the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department, scrumptious food fare became available for public consumption via the drive-thru pick-up method last Friday and will continue the next two Fridays, May 29 and June 5. Beginning at 5-8 p.m. or until food runs out, the fire company is accepting cash only. The menu offers hot sausage sandwiches, chicken fingers, cheeseburgers and fresh-cut French fries with one or two other items that change weekly. It’s recommended to arrive early at the fire hall by entering through the end of the parking lot near the intersection of South Railroad and West Academy streets.
