On Saturday, February 5, Shawn Marie Coles held the grand opening of her newest business venture, Coles Coffee and Café, located at 10 South Main Street. Coles was multi-tasking with a smile on her face, happily chatting with guests, keeping coffee cups filled, and cooking in her new kitchen. The seating space has been expanded, and in true small town style, many guests were chatting back and forth with people they knew at other tables.
Coles first opened her doors at that location in 2016 as Second Chance Consignment, and then transitioned it to Coles Coffee, Craft, & Consignment in late 2018. Coles Coffee and Café features a new menu, including subs that are made with fresh rolls from Lycoming Bakery that are delivered to the café every day. Two of the specialty subs she offers are the Jersey and the Mongo. The Jersey has ham, capicola, salami, lettuce, spring mix, black olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and sub oil. The Mongo has roast beef, horseradish cheese, lettuce, and tomato. There is also a new children’s menu that includes a drink and dessert. She often features daily specials that are advertised on the café’s Facebook page. While the subs are popular, the café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Coles
offers breakfast all day. Other menu items include a variety of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, shakes, juices, and desserts. There are also specialty items available from time to time like chocolate-covered strawberries.
Coles shared, “I love cooking and creating new sandwiches ideas. I’ve always had a passion for cooking and for helping people.” While she was running Coles Coffee, Craft, & Consignment, one of the ways that Coles helped the community was by providing free lunches to students who needed them when the pandemic hit. It’s something she will
continue again this summer. No matter what business venture she has had, Coles has a reputation for being warm and welcoming. Santa Claus has visited the shop many times
over the holidays and children were welcomed to come in and visit him. But summers and holidays aren’t the only time she opens her doors for complementary fun. Coles said there will be a craft event each month that will be free for the community to come and enjoy.
As much as Coles enjoys cooking, she said, “The most rewarding thing is meeting new people and sharing the love of Jesus to those who come in. I don’t always initiate the conversation but typically my shirts have some kind of faith-based [message] to them.” She further commented, “We are praying about hosting a church there every Sunday night.”
Coles Coffee and Café is open seven days a week. The hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 am-6:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 am-3:00 pm.
