Summer reading fun is for everyone at Muncy Public Library

By Staff | Jun 29, 2012

Emelie Nagle and Meredith McCahan from Muncy get creative making their Wacky Sculptures at the Muncy Public Library's Summer Reading Program.

MUNCY- Family programming is what it’s all about at the Muncy Public Library this summer. Besides special visiting guests and authors, scratch art and toddler tales, crafts and more are in the works for all who want to join in the fun. Director Victoria Thompson-Hess and staff have a busy line-up of activities for just about all ages.

Every Wednesday pre-schoolers can enjoy stories, games and songs from 10:30 to 11 a.m. until August 8. On Monday nights there will be Twilight Trivia for the tweens and teens. “Think you are the biggest twilight fan and know everything there is about Edward, Jacob, and Bella? Then prove it!” challenges Miss Victoria.

A unique presentation will be held this Friday, June 29 when special guest, artist Aleta Wynn will offer a “Help Draw a Fantasy Animal” for children ages 6 to 11. All materials will be provided by the library. This is partly due to a recent donation from Robert Dittmar, Jr. of Dittmar Plumbing Heating and Oil. “These funds will be used for programming and family services,” Thompson-Hess said. Other donations from volunteers and the community are also used.

July’s special guest will be singer and musician, Tom Seiling, who will delight the whole family with his rollicking, whimsical program. He also encourages audience participation, so this is one not to miss.

In August look for a special presentation “Creatures Of The Night With Zoo America”. It will be held Tuesday, August 7 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The library is going to open early that day for the program only. “Sign up now for this popular live animal show featuring owls and other creatures of the night,” said Miss Victoria.

A Dream Big Kids’ Art Show will be held Saturday, August 11 to celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program with family members attending an art show and enjoying the children’s artwork. The public is invited to stop by the Community Room anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to see the children’s summer creations.

Elise Emick from Friends of the Library wants to remind everyone that a book sale will continue throughout the year on the second Tuesday of each month from 4 to 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for the library. “There are many good books of all kinds,” she said.
